your healing journey.

I invite you to begin

I use Somatic Experiencing® (SE), dialogue, movement, and trauma sensitive touchwork including Myofascial Release (MFR) and ScarWork™ as the basis of our sessions. The modalities used depend on your situation, your input and your informed consent. It is recommended to start with SE sessions to build relational safety and develop a better understanding of your nervous system before we start incorporating bodywork.

My intention is to foster choice and agency, encourage more access to your present moment experience, deepen your relationship with your body, build resiliency and support relief of patterns of pain and tension.

It is incredible to witness the change, hope and relief my clients often experience when they are able to let go of the pain they've experienced for so long and rediscover their resiliency. I look forward to working!

-Maggie Hejl, LMT, SEP

Treatment

Myofascial Release (MFR)

MFR involves applying gentle, sustained pressure into fascial restrictions to eliminate pain and restore function. To disengage the body's protective responses, pressure is slowly and gently applied to fascial restrictions. Pressure is then sustained until a release is felt by the therapist or client, often a mimimum of three to five minutes. It is effective for long-term treatment of pain and dysfunction in the body.

Your fascia is a web of connective tissue that envelops, supports, and protects every structure in your body. It exists from head to toe as one continuous, uninterrupted system. When you injure yourself, you also injure your interconnected fascial tissue, causing it to tighten and dehydrate forming restrictions. Due to the continuous nature of your fascia, the restrictions in one part of the body affect the tissue and structures in other parts, including muscles, joints, nerves, blood vessels, and even your organs. Often the pain you feel in one place originates elsewhere in your body.

ScarWork™

ScarWork™ was developed by Sharon Wheeler. It is a gentle technique that helps integrate scar tissue into the fascial web. It works with your body to help the tissues return home rather than using aggressive techniques to “break up” tissue. It is not intended to be painful and should feel good. ScarWork is effective for reducing pain and improving function, sensation, and appearance of scars.

Somatic Experiencing® (SE)

Somatic Experiencing® (SE) is a naturalistic approach to the resolution and healing of trauma developed by Dr. Peter Levine through nervous system regulation and is supported by research. SE supports you to attend to comfortable and uncomfortable sensations (physiological activation) in your body and to gently unwind and settle the sensations through your conscious attention. Very often this process helps people to reduce stress and return to a sense of regulation and resilience in their lives. SE is particularly useful to manage stress because so many of the symptoms are physiological.

SE employs awareness of body sensation to help people “renegotiate” and heal rather than re-live or re-enact trauma.

SE’s guidance of the bodily “felt sense,” allows the highly aroused survival energies to be safely experienced and gradually discharged.

SE may employ touch in support of the renegotiation process.

SE “titrates” experience (breaks down into small, incremental steps), rather than evoking catharsis - which can overwhelm the regulatory mechanisms of the organism.

SE sessions are done seated in a chair or on the massage table.

*At this time I am not accepting new clients.

Your fascial restrictions and nervous system are unique to you and have developed according to the individual experiences your body has had experienced throughout your life. The number and frequency of treatments will be unique to you. This type of work is process oriented where changes and improvements build over time in your system, rather than a quick fix. If you are working with layers of pain, trauma, emotional fatigue or depletion, reaching a state of wellness may take multiple treatments.

Conditions Treated
FAQ's

Trauma (falls, accidents, physical and emotional abuse), irregular posture, lack of motion, inflammatory reactions (autoimmune conditions, illnesses, and disease), surgical procedures, and the effects of gravity on a misaligned body can create restrictions in the fascial system. These life experiences can solidify your connective tissue, creating symptoms of pain, decreased range of motion, fatigue, feelings of achiness, and imbalance.

MFR can help the following conditions and many more!

  • Back, Neck or Hip Pain

  • Adhesions and Scar Tissue from injury or surgery

  • Carpal Tunnel Syndrome
